Dependencies

A dependency is any course or program that depends on another course and/or program to meet its requirements.

For instance:

  • If a program requires a certain course to be completed for a degree to be awarded, then the program is a dependency of the course, because it is dependent on students being able to complete that course.
  • If, as an example, ACCTG2xxx requires that students earn a ‘C-‘ in ACCTG1xxx before they can register for ACCTG2xxx, then 2xxx is a dependency of 1xxx as it depends on students being able to complete that course.
  • If a course requires that students be enrolled in a certain program in order to register, then it is a dependency of the program as it is dependent on students being able to enroll.

If you are making changes to a course and/or program that has other courses and/or programs that rely on it, you will need to contact the Department of the dependent course and/or program to let them know that they may need to adjust their requirements to account for your changes.

If the requested change will affect a dependent program so that they will need to adjust their requirements, then the change will only be able to go into effect for a Fall Semester. This is due to the fact that program changes are only made once a year for Fall Semesters.
